it turns the marsh grass
into plumed scepters ...
bends the pine low
frosts the hedge
the sky is the color of the inside of a shell ...
a lone duck flies by
with a sense of urgency
ice floes drift on a pewter sea ...
and new snow falls
silently
oh, God, how can I bear to die
and leave your lovely earth?
Lovely poem, Margie....Love that ending....
ReplyDeleteAs I said elsewhere, there's that dialogue in Troy, which makes sense to me at all times --
The Gods envy us...because we are mortals....It all looks so beautiful, because we know we will die -- (can't get it verbatim --
wishes,
devika

ReplyDeleteGood question at the end,
ReplyDeleteOur beautiful earth ...

You are not going anywhere Margie, wish you long and happy life.
ReplyDeleteSnow is beautiful, ice is the problem which kills people around here. More snow for us today, later freezing rain!
They drive like crazies on the ice, they are used to warm and dry weather most of the time here!
Enjoy Superbowl Sunday, be warm and safe! :))
Beautiful question. You really appreciate God's Nature!
ReplyDeleteLovely
xo
Yes, it's beautiful....but I think I've had my share of it for this week. haha
ReplyDeleteStunning duo of photo and words, your verse is a dream, bravo Margie ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is one of your very best, dear Margie. I can picture the beauty of the snow on the trees by looking out the window. It still amazes me! The last part "Oh, God, how can I bear to die and leave your lovely earth" is how so many of us feel. Nature is so compelling and part of us with each breath. This is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHI MARGIE-
ReplyDeleteSometimes the power of your poems shake me to my core - this was one of those times. Amazing.
Love to you
Gail

Oh! Yes! The beauty of the snow! I can still picture the beauty of the snow as it falls lightly from the sky. Each and every day is precious and at the end of the day, we can all say Thank you for this beautiful snowy day!

Lovely poem Margie. Snow makes the landscape very beautiful and serene, a photographer's and artist's dream, but that is the only good thing about it. Snow makes driving conditions horrible and can be bad for health if precautions not taken.
