Being alone
is not being lonely,
it's a long walk
on a wide beach
where the only sound
is a bird's cry,
the wind racing a blue sky
and surf riding the shore.
Loneliness
is being alone
with a room full of people
who don't care
when despair is a tear
on a frozen cheek
in a bright room.
So lovely to see a poem from you, dear Margie. You have made my day. I do enjoy being alone and do not feel lonely, and your poem is a great description of what loneliness is...and isn't. I love this. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda

You are right Margie. Actually, since my husband is a seaman and my children are grown ups and have their own lives, I am often alone at home, but I don't feel lonely. I feel that my loved ones resides in my heart at I feel secure.:)
ReplyDeleteJoy,
DeleteHow wonderful that you feel your loved ones residing in your heart.

Yes, Brain, loneliness can be deadly.
DeleteI had a friend that once was on the verge of taking her own life due to loneliness but thank God she is doing well today ..
Both forms of solitude carry lessons that can be learned in no other way. Evocative poem.

You've described the difference perfectly, Margie. I've often felt lonely in the midst of what could be conceived as connection. I'm hoping you spent some solitary time for renewal in Mexico. We'll celebrate the twins' 12th birthday here tonight - no loneliness in store for us!
ReplyDeleteHi Barb
DeleteThank you for the kind words.
We had the most wonderful trip to Cancun ... it was so good to get away and walk in the sand and feel the ocean breeze ...
Beautifully written about the differences between being alone and loneliness.

Very beautiful, Margie. I hope you had an enjoyable time in Mexico with your sweetie. Cherish the time together. Sometimes I feel lonely when I remember some of those precious memories like the ones in your poem. I don't ever feel alone if I am really thinking, because I know I always have God with me.

ReplyDeleteHello Summer
DeleteYour kind words are appreciated.
Thank you.
Our time away was lovely and very special ...
Hi Margie! I really agree with your description of alone vs. lonliness. I love to be alone and walk in the forest, or on a nature path. Happy as a clam, because I choose that. But if I am shunned or alone when I don't want to be, then I feel isolated.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back my friend! I hope you feel refreshed from your vaca!
Ceil

DeleteHello greetings and good wishes.
ReplyDeleteFabulous poem. It is very interesting to note how you changed from one scene to another effortlessly. Two different word pictures. One depicting a beautiful scene and a happy heart.
The other scene shows a room crowded with people but being ignored and feeling sad. Sometimes this really happens.
You have very cleverly used a marvelous technique to drive home the point.
Best wishes
Hi Joseph
DeleteYour wonderfully detailed comment on my poem brought a smile to me.

DeleteBeach time is wonderful, I can attest to that!
Very nice poetic way to show the difference in alone and lonely, sweet Margie. I love being alone at times and really crave it and need it. I have never been to a beach but it looks like a great place to spend some "alone" time when no one is around. Hugs
ReplyDeleteJust Me Pooh,
DeleteThanks sweet one!
I know you would love the beach, you must go, if you can!
