sometimes it is just the going on in the face of defeat
to those who go on!
The man or woman who never achieves
yet never ceases
hoping, striving, dreaming!
Those who work and wait - for "Ships That Never Come In!"
has their earnestness here started something
that shall flower into reality somewhere beyond?
To the man who goes on
when it seems to him
that he just cannot carry his load
to the woman who smiles
in the face of defeat
at the end of the lonely road
these are the heroes
I give you tonight
they may fail, but they never say yield
"May hope be the angel"
who smiles in their eyes
when they close them
on earth's battlefield!
Margie, this is beautiful and I can't begin to tell you how much of an encouragement this poem is to me. A heartfelt thanks.

well i'm speechless!! wonderful wonderful! I just finished watching on Netflix "Freda Kelly" a documentary about the Beatles secretary (who was pretty much behind the scenes in people's recognition - she was humble for sure... and then I come and read this - first thing I read after watching it. Your poem just touched me so much. She is definitely a hero - shining behind the scenes making things work and progress.
ReplyDeleteSandy,

Hi Margie! I can't help but think about all the 'battlefields' that you were on with your husband, and how much you needed that Angel of Hope. You know how it feels to wake up and gut it out for another day. To keep trying and praying even though it seems hopeless. Thank you so much for sharing your story with me. It helps me to see the depth of your themes and verses.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!

I think you write for so many people, Margie - ordinary souls that keep putting one foot in front of another to make it through life. Defeat has no power when there is hope.

ReplyDeleteVery inspiring poem. We have to keep this in mind at all times. Failure is never final as long we keep trying and don't give up. We face so many disappointments in life because we give up in the face of failure. Very encouraging poem.
