I placed another calendar
today upon the wall
and pondered on the coming year
and just what may befall . . .
in all the days and weeks and months
before the year has fled
I wondered about
the road that lies ahead.

The days, like jig-saw puzzles, pass
Some happy, full of fun
Some full of sorrow and of pain. . .
We take them as they come.
We strive to put each in its place
as through the year we thread . . .
Sometimes, a hopeless puzzle seems
the year that lies ahead.

I look at the new calendar
and wonder that I might see
what beyond tomorrow lies
what's waiting there for me.
But, God in His far wiser way
makes a time book unread
and we must walk in hope and faith
the road that lies ahead
Warmest New Year wishes to all those who have visited me this year!
May 2007 bring much joy to your lives!
Thanks so much for all your wonderful visits!
I have loved having you here!

And I have loved visiting all of you at your wonderful sites!

Do you know that when the sun
slants a listless gold
on hearts like mine - Because of you-
my heart is never cold?

Because I know you have walked
through many a midnight glade
with dauntless steps, my pathway lies
controlled and unafraid!

Because of you, when twilight wraps
her brooding arms in grey-
my heart grows light as little birds
tucked-under-wing away.

Life's trials and goading tasks
seem not so hard to bear
when I recall in nighttime peace
YOU know- YOU know and care!

They flurry through the air like a million little gems
Wee, white molded designs like flowers without stems . . .
Falling from a drab sky to a grey, cold earth below
They fill the air like cobwebs of iridescent glow!

Who knows where they come from or how their designs are formed
As they hurry to earth, blown by blizzard and storm . . .
Who sees how they all merge as one, in piles so deep
As they drift down silently while all earth seems asleep!

I'd like to take my grief
the way a tree
bends to the
storms that beat it. . .

To see it as a part
of life . . .
and , by accepting it,
defeat it!

That each Christmas, you and yours
will enjoy the greatest of all gifts . . .
Each other!

Twilight is the lovely
when light and darkness
meet . . .

As joy and sorrow
often touch
in one mood
strange and sweet!

I have seen the snow-capped mountains
and the restless surging sea.
The dark green depths of the forests
always cast a spell over me.

I have felt the witching of deserts
and been spell-bound by Northlands drear.
I have watched a poem in motion
when I startled a bob-tailed deer.

Oh, the world is so full of beauty
unbounded, priceless and free.
Yet nothing touches my heartstrings
like the lights of home beckoning me!

There are things that Christmas brings
Snow as soft as angel wings.

Christmas trees and candlelight
Eyes that sparkle in the night.

Fire lights glow and church bells ringing
Sounds of happy voices singing.

Blessed songs that warm the heart
Truly this season is set apart.

By love and joy and cheerful giving
And all that makes our life worth living.

May we catch this spirit, hold it fast
And pray the seasons' love and warmth will last!

Golden sunrise
fills the air
and our lips
breathe a prayer.

Heat of midday
we are strong
if our hearts
hold a song.

Evening shadows
work doth cease
and our souls
echo - peace.

Hand in hand we roamed the land
one early summer night . . .
subtle minds, cerulean eyes
were stranded in the light.

He turned to me and gently smiled
a soft breeze murmured through . . .
the stars were shining in the wake
a courtship in the blue.

In THY tapestry of life, O' Lord . . .
my thanks for every stitch . . . My
family and friends who form the pattern , Lord . . .
and make my life so rich!

I searched the world
for happiness
but sorrows met me
everywhere . . .

They drove me back
to my own heart
and happiness was
waiting there!

Sunday, December 10, 2006

God gave me the gift of memory. . .
that I might close my eyes and see
the ones I love, and who love me.

I want all kinds of
feelings in my life.
We gain from all our
joys and sufferings.

Contentment gives us
health . . . and beauty too.
And courage is the gift
that sorrow brings.

The bitter wind is singing
a cruel song tonight
and snow is piling deeply
in drifts so deep and white.

I find refuge in my dwelling
am there secure and warm
but please God, take care of all creatures
who must weather such a storm!

I thought I would write a poem today
but could not think of a thing to say.
I'd write a poem as sure as fate
if I could just concentrate.
So varied the topics that fill my mind
but nothing tangible I find.
Just take the weather for example
what's written about it seems quite ample.
The subject of love clutters so much stuff
In my opinion, there's more than enough.
The changes in seasons are always here
but they're always the same, year after year.
Or, one could write about sunshine or shore
but that's been done so much before.
OH! Well, I may as well go to bed
as try to bother my befuddled head.
For there's one thing I now plainly see
It's just not my day to write poetry!

It is the wind that causes the trees to sway
and caps the breakers white with spray.

The sunshine makes the flowers bright
and changes darkness into light.

The gentle rain helps things to grow
and makes our mighty rivers flow.

So many forces here are found
but it's love that makes the world go round!

Friday, December 01, 2006

I love the happy ones . . . the birds
who never do resort to words . . .
but with each breath, drop crystal notes . . .
tireless crescendos from their throats!

They do not buy commodities
Are not concerned with oddities . . .
They pass their time in grateful praise . . .
Are thankful for the many ways . . .
their faith preserves, sustaining them . . .
through heavy storm or windy whim.

I love the turn and twist and trill
of every bird upon the hill !
They sing hosannahs, though unheard . . .
with faith more eloquent than word . . .
In stormy weather, a bird's refrain
is courage singing in the rain!

Thursday, November 30, 2006

I love grey days of
wind and rain . . .
when all the big trees
shout and play . . .

And misty days all
filled with dreams . . .
I just love
weather . . .

Wednesday, November 29, 2006

The cystal dawn in silence breaks
the world is hushed and still . . .
the sleeping birds to morn awake . . .
beside a gurgling rill.

The fragrance of the dewy flowers
like incense seems to rise . . .
diffusing beauty through the hours . . .
beneath the clear, blue skies.

The pines are whispering soft and low
a haunting melody . . .
of lands where soft the blue winds blow
afar beyond the sea.

And in and out, among the trees
the fairy sunbeams play . . .
they dance with every wayward breeze . . .
to usher in the day!

To give my very best
to life
should be my greatest
aim . . .

It helps me too, for
when I do
life gives
me back
the same!

Monday, November 27, 2006

Little guy, you crept, wag-first
into my heart one day!
The years sped by . . .
Then came the Call
you could not bark away.

(Tell me, does your moisty nose
still nudge encircling arms?
Where you are now, are smiles more bright
before your many charms?)

Someday, I'll whistle low "our" call
and from your Pleasant Land . . .
you'll race to greet me . . . for you'll know
I need you. Understand?

Sunday, November 26, 2006

Meander along a path through the woods
and listen to nature . . . the handiwork of God . . .

Hear the birds singing in the trees . . .
try to find the way where the deer have trod. . .

Harken to waterfalls roaring over rocks
and the gurgling of the little streams . . .

Find a big lichen-coverd rock or log
where you can sit and pleasantly dream . . .

Your worries will melt and fade away
Your heart and mind will be quietly at ease . . .
because nature's sweet solitude . . .
is restful, calming and full of peace!

Friday, November 24, 2006

Today gave to my waking world
a gold and crimson dawn . . .
so splashed with splendor that the sight . . .
I scarcely could look upon.

And in the dewy morningtide
I heard a bird's cry . . .
of utter joy, and saw him wing . . .
across the western sky.

Before my eager, quickened sight
a flower-form unfurled . . .
and lent its matchless beauty . . .
to a green and amber world.

My grateful heart beheld a way
to lift a load of care . . .
that in a silent loneliness . . .
a friend of mine had to bear.

Twilight gently blanketed
the weary world in rest . . .
and stooped to kiss the joy . . .
that slumbered at my breast.

Today I learned to love each hour
nor asked tomorrow planned . . .
and lo, at last, I drift toward sleep . . .
its key within my hand!

Like spangles on the
of daily life, work and
duty . . .

Are countless little
of evanescent

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

The old trunk in the attic covered with dust
through the years.
She hesitated to look inside
as she knew her eyes would fill with tears.

Slowly she would open the cover and all the memories
of her little girl were there.
A photograph of her little darling with curls in her hair.
A tiny shoe, a teething ring, and a well worn teddy bear.
The memories were so vivid.
She felt as though she was there.

When her little girl was laid to rest
and an angel for her stone...
she knew that God would watch over her...
and take her to his throne.

At first, she could not comprehend
why this small life should end.
Oh, God, she cried isn't fair
to leave me in such despair!

But God in his goodness and
mercy, gave her another darling in her place.
A little blue-eyed baby boy with the sweetest little face!

This poem is about my dear, sweet sister.

Many trials of the day appear
Struggles seem all in vain . . .
Evening comes swiftly at close at day. . .
Happy am I again.

Quietly you snuggle up beside me
In pure joy as the sun declines . . .
It's the romance I've always dreamed of . . .
as tenderely you say you are mine. . .
All the world fades into the night . . .
No life could be sweeter than this . . .
As I enfold you in my arms, dear . . .
Gazing in your eyes, waiting to be kissed . . .
I beg no more of love supreme . . .
All grief past, the future a rosy dream!

The least little thing
makes me happy today
in my mood of
unreasoning glee . . .

Oh my, but I'm glad that
I'm nobody else
because it's
such fun
to be me!!!

A light little poem for today!

Saturday, November 18, 2006

Nothing can paint mother nature
just as she really is . . .
A bird or a twig is left out . . .
There is always something amiss . . .
The bellow of the frog in the pond . . .
The shade falling about . . .
and ants crawling in the grass . . .
Aren't some of those things always left out?

A chunk of ice floating down the stream . . .
may miss the artist's eye . . .
He may not heed a timid deer . . .
that is quietly slipping by. . .

And the poet's gaze is careless, too . . .
Many things miss her pen . . .
But the human eye that loves nature . . .
Hears, feels, sees all . . . from mountain to the glen!

Tomorrow, what shall we be ?
Shall we be arrogant or humble?
Tomorrow, what shall we see?
Happiness, or will our world crumble?

We never know till the morrow is reached
I guess it's best that way . . .
So, we jump into bed, close our eyes . . .
And have hope for that great day . .

Unhurried, soft, the
soundless snow
falls gently to the
frozen ground . . .

Such perfect stillness
sometimes seems
more musical
than any

When April showers come pouring down
day after day with sullen frown . . .
and bright sunshine has gone to rest
where summer days are palmiest . . .
we soon forget that through the year
the sun shines on us most sincere . . .
than any place near or far
"that's why we so popular"!

A week of rain does more to earth
in bringing flowers forth from birth . . .
and every plant springs up and blooms
before you count a pair of moons . . .
And oh, the glory that they shed
from gardens or mountain beds . . .
We need those April showers, each one
because we have our share of sun!

What sunshine weather we can boast
is really a heavenly toast . . .
To have folks say . . ."Why do you live
where sunshine is infinitive?
And where you see the mountain peaks
and rustling winds in music speaks?
We think you are most fortunate
to live in such a sunny State!"

Thursday, November 09, 2006

Dear Lord, I love the wild and open places
creations of your hand in old and new . . .
Let me but live where there are mighty traces
of stately trees, and rocks, and skies of blue!

Give me a heart as open as the plains
a mind that reaches high as mountain peaks . . .
a soul that soars above the winds and rains
where only God through radiance speaks!

Give me of kindness, love, a goodly measure
of sympathy, that flows like rivers deep . . .
devotion, reverence, and your pleasure
let me the precepts of your wisdom keep!

Let me be as crystal snow-flakes falling
that blanket earth with dazzling whiteness and pride . . .
then guide me when I hear your loving voice calling
to span the stretches of the Great Divide!

When I am dead and over me sweet springtime
awakes to life from her long winter's sleep . . .
I think, that as part of earth's great fullness
I shall, yet, feel Life's finger's reaching deep!

I think that I shall thrill again to songbirds
and know the healing warmth of April rain . . .
when hillsides lose their brown and start to quicken
while new leaves dance on trees along the lane!

I shall know hope of blest resurgent living
as Nature's dead awake in spring anew. . .
So I can sit here silent , without grieving
above the mound of earth that covers you!

No life is like a level road
with Heaven as its farthest goal. . .
but valleys deep and mountains high
that test your patience and your soul.

The valleys are your days of gray
when plans all seem to go awry . . .
but valleys we must always have
or else there'd be no mountains high.

So in your valleys, patience have
be like the heart within your breast . . .
note how it very strongly beats
then wisely stops a beat. . . to rest!

Hail to you, sky so blue
with glint of sunrise shining thru!
Stars grow dim and disappear
when the coming day is near.
On the far horizon lines
glows the red of ancient wines.
Little cloudlets curl and twist
merging with the morning mist.
Soon appears an arc of fire
growing fuller, rising higher.
And, swifter than our thought divines
his arrow strikes the mountain pines.
And now his gleaming shaft extends
out to where our vision ends!

Sky, your wondrous light has come!
All day long your ethereal dome
haloes every earthly home.
The clouds may hide you for a while
we see them pass, and meet your smile.
Beneath your dark, mysterious blue
moves all life we ever knew.
And in each varied circumstance
of dull routine or sweet romance
a cloudless sky invokes a charm
protecting like an encircling arm!

O sky, so distant and so deep
thru life's long day your vigil keep
enfold us when at last we sleep!
Hail to you, sky so blue
with night's gold stars all shining thru!

Many billion of prayers or so
each day up to heaven go
and tumble all about the feet of God.
They arrive in every color
some are bright and some are duller
and as they fall . . . God gives a knowing nod.

Prayers selfish or conniving
burn upon arriving
and fall as ashes on the sender's head . . .
while those with whine or grumble
cause the heavens all to rumble
and drop to earth as solid bits of lead.

But the prayers sincere and deep
are the ones God likes to keep
to show to all the angels near and far.
These prayers are set apart
kept near God's heart
each one made into an everlasting star!

Come and go with me to the mountain side
where the path leads up and the world is wide!
Come and bring your dreams that have gone astray
you will find new ones on my woodland way.
Come and walk with me to the canyon's rim
and listen spell-bound to Nature's hymn!
Come and lift your eyes to the star-hushed night
and release your soul to the wind's delight!

You will know at last your heart is free
when you follow this path and come with me.

Monday, October 30, 2006

My thoughts of you
had traveled wide
and then my heart
felt warm, inside . . .

Without a single doubt
I knew
that you were thinking of me, too!

The body ages - not the heart
it stays forever young . . .
expanding to embrace new loves
its song is never sung.

Tomorrow I may love still more
than in my yesterdays . . .
Life knocks upon the waiting door
outside new music plays.

Love springs unbidden to the heart
a stranger now a friend . . .
and on a day till then grey dull
loom futures without end.

The mind can furnish countless ways
the body plays its part . . .
but life has no conspiracy
to age a loving heart!

I climbed to the ridge so deep
with snow
and looked on the valley
down below . . .
Glistening, shimmering
immaculate white
it had fallen so silently
during the night . . .
Distant vistas stretch so
clear and bare
revealing such slumbering
beauty there . . .
Hiding the mystery of
winter's long sleep
That the trees in their
stately silence keep.

Exquisitive loveliness
breath-taking, serene
completely tucked in by
heaven's white screen.

Tomorrow may come
and with it the thaw . . .
Today is perfect
there isn't a flaw . . .
Such artistry gives its own
special balm . . .
in a blessing to all
with its peace and its calm!

I love the blue of heavens serene
Receding far into depths unknown
Where thoughts can wander above earth's woes
And there, among the stars, muse alone.

This blue is a solace to the soul
Roaming to infinity on high
Melting the worries that seemed so big
And there, in quiet solitude to lie.

The God of heaven gives us the blue
A shadow of the quiet strength to come
On the fleeting wings of morning's light
And the fiery onslaught of the sun.

The many colors of the rainbow
The gold glow . . . as day to rest . . . is lain
The red sunset and the rosy dawm
Promise the blue will be mine again.

There in its quiet . . . I will yet triumph
As the blue heavens impart that peace
Direct from God
To give the soul strength . . . and heart release!

His name was Mike. . . hers was Susan . . .
neighbors on my street. . .

I wonder if they could possibly have known
what was ahead so soon for both of them . . .
there was no indication in the tone
of either of their voices
when I knocked one evening at their door
to ask for a contribution for cancer . . .
I had never been in their home before
but both were very friendly . . . inviting me in . . .
said they'd be quite happy to donate . . .
there was small talk and then ''goodbye's"
but not a hint of impending fate.

He went first
just about a year later. . .
it seemed to us that it was so sudden
but, oh, that disease is a traitor . . .
it sneaks in without warning
to rob, to destroy, and to kill . ..
to take away hope and eat the soul
and mock at the victim's will.

She followed not long after . . .
the same dreadful disease . . .
such a tragic, pathetic ending
blown to them ...on a hard, cold breeze
and when taken by this double tragedy
they left two teen-age girls alone
and, that they'd not live to see them grow up
I wonder . . . I wonder if they could have known!

I like trees that are bare. . .
Not because life seems to be gone
Nor because death seems to be lurking there . . .
Each limb protruding in the sun.

But in their nakedness their is beauty . . .
Each bend, each curve, each crook can be seen
Each little twig its own personality . . .
In every direction the branches lean.

There is nothing hidden by leaves. . .
The little birds' nests stand out forlorn
Deserted for the warmth of the eaves . . .
The humble abodes now open to the storm.

Yes, I like trees when I can see . . .
The secrets they can no longer hide
The scars of battle they could not flee. . .
And now winter winds they bravely bide!

October! Beautiful October!
A favorite season of all the year
With all its kaleidoscope of colors
And its mucic so sweet to the ear . . .
The music of the whispering wind
Whispering gently through colorful leaves
Telling the little birds it is time
To abandon their home in the trees.

Summer is dying, yes, she's dying
Is chanted softly, quietly everywhere . . .
In the murmur of the woodland stream
The crispness of morn and evening air
The chirping of the lonely cricket
Chirping the last days of its life away
And the gold of the golden sunset
Heralding the end of an autumn day.

Oh, give me the peace of October
And let me languish in her warm embrace
With her breezes so gently teasing
And pomp of her color every place
Though I dearly love early springtime
When thousands of flowers open their bud
Now, I'm enslaved to bright October
Though she has drained summer's lifeblood!

Happy are they who always hear
The music earth is bringing
Murmur of waters rippling clear
And songs the stars are singing.

Happy are they who always see
The beauty earth has given
The white cloud masses floating free
And the blue-domed, star-lit heaven!

The world doesn't spin
in perfect order.
There are times
it tries to shake me off
but I hang on
with all my might

and afterwards declare
insane with pride...

"I made it, one more time
God bless my soul

and I bless thee!"

Autumn puts on a briliant dress
for the last act of summer's play
before the curtain falls.

Lavishly the stage is set
against a backdrop haze of somber pine
the aspens flaunt their scarves of gold
the pleated hills roll in terraced folds
of russet, oak and wild rose. . .
flaming and rising over lingering green
of valley floor...the bronzed-leaf poplars gleam
in aureate light of pale October suns. . .

Such the setting for the play. . .
a pageant spread beneath a shell of crystal blue
to the music of the winds that sway
the willows by the stream. . .

Extravagant . . . yes, but this is the last big scene
before the winter comes
and the white curtain falls!

Wishing everyone a great big smile for today!

Monday's smile
is rather thin.
Tuesday's smile
starts to begin.
Wednesday's smile
is full of cheer.
Thursday smile's
from ear to ear.
Friday's smile
is toward one end...
To wear a smile
the whole week-end!

A cold in the head is a hell of a thing
It gets you down, I want to say...
You don't know what's wrong... you can't even breathe
You get weaker day by day!

You take everything that ever was made
To kill all those hard-fighting germs
But they fight twice as hard and thumb their nose
For you're a cream-puff they've heard!

You don't want to play... you don't want to sing
You're crosss at the letter X
You grumble and cough... you don't want to smile
What is it people expect?

With a cold in the don't want to talk
Not even speaking of fun
You don't want sympathy... you just want to be
Alone 'til its course it has run!

Think of scarlet and gold and royal purple
Or emeralds and silver in patterns to please
The whiteness of ivory with onyx inlays
Amethyst mountains and sapphire seas
Gardens of flowers, bright kingdoms of color
A bowl full of roses tinged pink as the dawn
Colors like dreams running deep through
The fiber of life!

I wrote this poem for my dear friend, Mary... who died June 6th....I gave her this poem a few months before she died....

A girl lives beneath your silver hair
She shines out through your eyes
I hear her in your laughter
I know her from your sighs.

A girl stays inside your tired frame
She stands so straight and tall
Her feet still skip to music
And seldom stop at all.

A girl waits within your gifted heart
She stops to taste the rain
She senses deeply sorrows
She shares the joy and pain.

And oh, your hair may be all white
Your body worn and slow
But still you are not old at all
You're just a girl you know!

I go to cry in a lonely place
Where a moon hangs in the trees
And weeps all night its tear-drop stars
Brushed by a mournful breeze!

I go to laugh in a joyful, busy place
My face warmed by the sun
And happy birdsongs filter through
The treetops, one by one!

Run through the forest
Swim in the sea...
Dance in the meadow
Lighthearted and free!

Exult in the sunrise
On mountain crest...
Savor a sunset
Composed and at rest.

Kneel in a wild place
With hands cupped around
The most wonderful flower
You've ever found!

Near the warmth of a fire
With a friend....sit together...not apart
And dream into the flames
From the depth of your heart!

As songs once sung cannot be unsung
A bell rung cannot be unrung
But love expressed becomes a balm
And prayerful thoughts produce a calm.

A word once spoken leaves the tongue
With no recall, and tears might be rung
But healing hands touch, palm to palm
As songs once sung.

A faith held fast allays the qualm
Compassion can become our psalm
As stars across the heavens strung
As songs once sung!

To know you is to know
The rain's soft falling on parched earth
In you is my soul's refreshing
The calm that quiets the turbulence
Of storm-torn heart!

I revere in you
The spirit that emanates before me
Like a gentle glow
And lights my own heart's lamp
To soft perfection of your love.
My dearest one!

Peace is a moment after pain.
Peace is the freshness after rain.
Peace is the quiet, after wind.
Peace is the garment where hope is pinned.

There is peace in a memory, peace in beauty,
a wry kind of peace in unpleasant duty.
Peace is the look in a baby's face.
Peace is the breath at the end of the race.

Personal peace is a fragmented thing
as fleeting and pure as birdsong in spring
the edge between worry and striving once more
a landing, a ledge... a wide open door!

Dawn comes slowly to the valley floor
stars lose themselves behind a silver sky
banners of flame-glow rise from gray and soar
like windspun fantasies that never die.

Shadows grow long where rocky canyon rims
lean high above the waking valley land
the sun gleams pale, then brightens, while glad hymns
pour from feathered throats at day's command.

Mist runs into the arms of daybreak's sun
the breezes walk on tiptoe over grass
while flowers nod and open one by one

dawn slowly brings this miracle to pass!

Love sees no barrier on ahead
No matter be they tall

Love pushes on through weal or woe
She scales the highest wall
She leaps o'er mountain crests or hills
She dives in deepest sea
She crosses oceans to other lands
And sings on distant lea
You find her everywhere you roam
In huts and castles, strong
She makes a haven of happy homes
And blesses life with song!

Who never left a highway
For a winding mountain trail
Nor his own glowing fireside
To face a wintery gale
Who never turned strange corners
Just on hopeful chance
Of maybe running headlong
Into some new romance
Nor climbed a towering mountain
To its very highest shelf
Has yet to make acquaintance
With the best part of himself!

The leaves are made of golden brocade
Loosened, they flutter down and
Blink on and off like a light bulb
Winking slyly to me: "Here comes Fall!"

The afternoon glow invades my heart
But the drifting leaves disperse

Like a flung pack of cards
Shouting at me: "Here comes Fall!"

She whispered not a word to me
but sliped by silently.
She lingered in my garden nook
with beauty dazzled to my look.
She glided gracefully to my door
and stopped to penetrate her magic

into everything she touched.
A breeze blew.
She was gone.
But her magic lingered on.
I greeted the moon with a smile
for I knew what she had done.
She came with the sun
and left behind a moon and her
magic powder of night.

A love for my heart
Thoughts for my head
Tasks for my hands
Butter for my bread.

Sleep for my nights
Work for my days
Courage for trouble
A little bit of praise.

A song in my soul
Strength for any test
That's all I ask for
You Take the rest!

Day opened wide her silver gates for me
and sent a golden sunbeam for my guide.
She tossed a bluebird into bluer skies
and poured a song in the grass along my side.

Day sprinkled flowers on the meadow's green
like jewels lying on a velvet spread
and hung ripe apples on the swaying trees
then turned the sunset skies to flaming red.

Day provided to be a friend to me, indeed.
She took away any sadness my heart had known
then gave me joy
and brushed her laughing lips against my own.

Oh, canine pal, I see you near
your haunting after-glow
come run with me and reminisce

the love we used to know.

You followed me, I followed you
the paths we used to race
we were a team, inseparable
noone other could replace.

With you I felt companionship
with you I'd never fear
you guarded me throughout my youth
my memory sheds a tear.

We jostled in the morning air
what fun we used to share
the fact that you are gone, my faithful one
is sometimes so hard to bear

Come afternoon you'd tag along
to our favorite hiding place
we chased the wind with panting stride
and you always put a smile upon my face.

I still go back every now and then
to remember you one more time
I loved that dog, and he loved me
I was his and he was mine.

Hearts are like doors
they open wide
to all manner of cheerfulness
and kindness...

The lock opens with ease
to keys
called harmony and love.

I would have wings with which to fly
Far above this turmoiled world...
To a place of peace
From which all sordid things
Are forever hidden and hurled.

I would have wings
That were silver tipped
That reached to a budding star
And I would learn peace
From my flight on high
That I would scatter near and far.

I would have wings
With which to fly
When the trials of earth rebelled
Yes, I would bring peace to a weary world
Where all wrongs were expelled!

May I walk my ways
clear-eyed and
and do some good

The ship that never sailed
a harbor of regret
a dock of might-have-beens
a sea of discontent.

I'd rather set my sails
and journey with the tide
than be content to coast
and never to have tried.

A distant shore's awaiting
for those to take the ride
a shore of new beginnings
get on board while there's still time!

When kisses and handshakes have long been forgotten
And people and places no longer seem near...
If life's weary journey gets bad and then rotten
And cares seem to fill you with fear...
When all through the daytime you worry
And then in your eye comes a tear...
If smiles seem to leave in a hurry
And people don't laugh when you're near

When people you've left, you cease to remember
And people that you've met don't know that you're there...
Bright June days seem like December
With shadows of grey everywhere...
When the burden of living lies on your heart
And people are cruel and unfair...
If no one is present to take your part
And no one is near you to care

When you haven't anyone you can turn to
And your life is beginning to drag...
If you can't do the things you yearn to
If your hopes seem to die or to lag...
When you can't seem to muster up courage
And your back 'neath the burden does sag...
If you are too old for your age
And the things that are done seem to nag

Remember there's one that is always true
That you know will never pretend...
There will always be one thinking of you
Remember, I'll always be your friend!
