They who bind loveliness
will not be hurt
by common things
theirs is a white
impregnable defense
against the inquietudes of night
and dull minutiae of day _
They who make loveliness
an amulet
chained on heart
will walk secure
from javelins of hate
impervious to the thrust
of treacheries
feigned friends and whited words
nor care to weld
the substance with the dream _
And since their happiness
draws substance
from slender roots
of little things
implicit in all life
tapping a hidden well
of coolness, confident and calmness
nothing can sadden long
nor scar too deep _
LOVE the title and reminder to appreciate the 'little lovely'. I just returned from a walk and picking a bouquet of wild flowers and it truly did feel like a binding of loveliness so the timing of this poem is perfect for me, because life always is ready to render its hurts as well. The healing is in the Hand that bestows earth's loveliness. Thank-you for share your beautiful talent!

Yes, the lovely little things, the amulets, keep the evil away from us. We only have to believe in it.

DeleteDear Margie, I found over the years that interpretation does lay with the reader. I remember writing a poem of parted lovers to find that others read into it death. It is incredible the power of writing. When we read what others write we look for either a connection, similarity to our own thoughts, but never the less it is up to us to interpret. Those who fear another opinion fail to see the beauty and power of worlds. You are indeed a special soul and your gifts are many. Continue to read and especially to write in your own warm and magical way. I never intended to write to please others , I wrote to please my own soul.I still write to please my own soul...the glass is indeed half full. When I display my work at art shows, I know that own a small percentage of people will walk by with an open heart and relate to what I have written.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your visits and your comments and appreciate each and everyone. If all possible I would like to mail you a small gift, a token of my appreciation. You can forward it to rachel@autumnsboutique.com . Remember interpretation is a gift unique to each individual who reads and writes poetry.
I find that poetry is a doorway to a more positive light, in a sometimes very dark world. Don't ever stop blogging the world would be at a loss.
Yours Truly
