Good morning, Mother Sun, did you sleep well?
You look rested and bright this morning
arriving with such a colorful display.
Your husband's work last night was wonderful
though he was upstaged by the stars
until the fog took its seat in the balcony.
You two are a funny couple
modern in your parenting arrangement
with his insomnia, it is only natural
him watching the children while they sleep.
I am always inspired by the pas de deux
when he glows on the edge of the stage
while you hover above the symphony
in your brilliant act of illumination.
Do you tire, Mother? You're beginning to sink
will you indulge us with a colorful finale?
Ah, the prima donna, you captivate us.
A breathtaking performance, graceful curtsy
you disappear behind a black velvet horizon.
But, never a curtain call, how hard we clap.
lovely take on the model of the fem and masc.. I always thought of the sun being male and the moon, the bella luna as feminine...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cat.
DeleteI have also thought of the moon as female but wanted to "change it around" a bit.
Nice to have you visit. x
I will think of your metaphor now when the "luminaries" take to the stage.
ReplyDeleteGood then Barb.
DeleteThanks for visiting.
Margie, you can feel and talk to everything what surrounds us. You talk to the Mother Sun and I can see that she is bright and rested. What a beautiful metaphor!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd then you talk a little bit more casual and I love it also.
Beautiful poem! Very beautiful! I began to think that you should to collect all your amazing poems in one book, Margie. And I am serious about it.
I love your picture of wild flowers. I have a tender heart for all wild flowers and yours are gorgeous and very modest.
Warm hugs from Kaya

DeleteYou made me smile :-)
Beautiful poem --some elements of the Compline Hymns affect me this way, humanizing tremendous operations of the universe. I prefer your lyrics.
ReplyDeleteGeo, today is my day for smiling as your comment kind of made me think "really" ?
DeleteBut if you say it, I believe it.
Thanks so much, I am very touched!
Beautiful poem :-)

DeleteHi Margie! What a clever analogy...I always think of the moon as a girl, so this was a fun switch. The moon as an insomniac? Genius!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember that TV commercial of the Dad and the boy watching the sunset? The Dad counted down the seconds until the sun slipped behind the horizon. Enthralled, his son whispered "Daddy, do it again!" This poem reminds me of that.
No matter how hard we clap, the day will not start again. Best get living!
Happy Thursday, my friend :)
Ceil
Ceil, yes, that moon is a bit of an insomniac ... LOL

Margie, this is one of those "special" posts that I am SO glad to have read. It is a treasure, a compliment of gratitude to God for gifts of night-and day
ReplyDeleteYa know, some nights--and days--are shorter, or longer than others. In the end, thought, if you average them out, daylight and night are parcelled with exactly the same amount of time. It really is marvelous, the whole thing--Universe, Creation!!!
(BTW, I am fine for my age. Sponsor says when someone asks "How are you" answer should be "good enough"--grin!)
Steve, it's always a joy to have you visit as you leave such nice comments and they mean a lot to me.
