When I see a red bird
Perched upon a tree
In a bleak December
Singing lustily
I won't say it's happy
Though its song seems so
For I sing, too, on dark days
And I ought to know ...
Know when words ring gaily out
To a listening throng
There may be a sad note
Threading through that song
Or a heart be broken
Though a laugh is heard
So it is with tenderness
I salute the bird.
poignant and beautiful

I like the picture.

Talk to you soon.
This is a lovely reminder that we can sing and hum and release energy even when we are feeling down. That isn't the same thing as pretending, it is a way to hold onto the good while dealing with the bad.
ReplyDeleteGreat way of saying it!
ReplyDeletebeautiful...even on dark days...I can still sing. ☺
ReplyDeleteMargie, most of us have learned to sing on dark days but most of us do not have your gift of expressing ourselves in such a lovely way as you have, another great poem my friend.......:-) Hugs

Hello Margie,
ReplyDeleteVery nicely written.
I love seeing cardinals perched on the tree by the feeder in the winter. They look so bright next to the sparkling white snow.
I love the photo too.
Have a great day,
Lydia
