Touch Telephone ~

Why did I call tonight?
Not to say but to touch
Not to reason but to reach ...

A moment ago
the loneliness of your absence
brought an icy stillness
into my lonely thoughts
and I reached for the warmth
of your presence ...
'
Vibrant wires
astir with electronic aliveness
and human yearning
compressed miles eagerly
until comfortingly
I heard the sweet familiarity
of your voice ...

Magically
the moment of your presence
the touch of your almost-nearness
warmed my heart
and when I replaced the phone
the loneliness was gone ...

----------------------------------------------
I so miss my dear husband when he is away from me
and it's always so wonderful to hear his voice
as we touch hearts across the wires.
He returns to me in a few days ....

  1. I identify so closely with what you've written. Absence eased by a voice. You express the feeling incomparably well.

  2. sometimes all it takes is to hear their voice
    to know they are alright.
and only a brief call away should we need
smiles...it is nice we can hear them
    whenever we need that assurance

I understand only too well this loneliness and the times of an absence. My husband is working away from home this week and the phone line provides that required connection!!

  18. Hi Margie! I often wonder how many phone calls are really not to talk, but to reach, just as you said. We all need those connected times...it reminds me that I am not alone. And that someone cares.

I hope your husband is back now. A reason to rejoice!
    Blessings,
    Ceil

  19. Hi Ceil,
For me it's about the reaching out, just to know all is ok.
    Them I can rest peacefully.

My husband is home again and that is indeed a reason to rejoice.

    Blessings to you.
    Happy Weekend.
