How nice to sit with you
over a cup of coffee
and not have to say anything
How good that you
do not try to entertain me
or pass the quiet time
by a lot of chatter
How restful that
you do not care
what the neighbors are doing
nor would you tell me
if they did hold your interest briefly
Even if I might be annoyed with you
you never hold a grudge
but only look
to our resumed friendship
waiting patiently for me
to make a move
to show I'm feeling better
I appreciate
your lack of criticism
and your apparent forgetfulness
when I have forgotten
to show you my love
I too will try
to be more patient
when you prefer to ---
---------------------------------
dig in the flowers
chase the squirrels
or bark at the neighbor's cat!
smiles...whole lot of grace in that relationship...and how cool not to have expectations like entertaining...and just being with...
ReplyDeleteYes, his name is Willie and he calls every other week. We've known each other 48 years and you've just inspired me to drive 100 miles and take him out to lunch. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteI used to have that kind of friend. When I moved to an apartment, she had to move elsewhere. I still miss her.
Blessings and Bear hugs.
Thank you all so very much for all the wonderful and kind comments.
ReplyDeleteHope to find time later to reply to each one.
Life is so busy with my little Rose, just waiting for her daddy to bring her to my house, it was nice not to have to wake up at 5:30 am and get on the highway.
Oh, the little joy of sleeping in:)
Wishing all of you a wonderful and joyful day ...
Love
Margie
This is so lovely. Immediately I thought of our treasured Shadow who just loves to be with us. At times she drives my hubby crazy, but slowly he is getting to know the joys of being connected with a cat.
