There are enough memories
stored away in the depths of our minds
to fill an immense storage place.

Memories of every conceivable kind
on every possible subject
that ever has been related to us
and many of these memories
are very beautiful.

The best of life's beautiful things
are still free
bits and pieces of the joyful things
that are a part of us.

The memory of a little girl
with soft brown eyes
standing in a field of daisies.

A kiss in the morning
a whisper of delightful nothings
a prayer of thanksgiving.

What are we
that is not
a fragment
from a past happiness?
or a past hurt
that we can't help but store.

And what are we
but what we collect
of life's most beautiful
and priceless collection of memories?

And what are we
but what we create
beautiful memories of today
so we may look forward to all our tomorrows.

  1. I agree these memories are often precious.
I have kept a diary most of my adult life in order to jog my memory when I re-read it.

  2. From this moment forward everything else is a memory. Your hot chocolate and marshmallows are getting cold...

  3. Morning Margie,

Memories can be fickle and they can be moving. Are we the sum of our memories or the hope of memories to come.

  4. Memories are just memories of the good times long gone

    a nostalgia trip when u r 84
Now u need to create memorable moments

    PLACE:my place
    DATE: sept 20
    TIME: after sunset
DRESS CODE: just wear something comfortable or not at all

  5. /The best of life's beautiful things
    are still free
So true margie. Our air, water, sky, flowers and so many are beautiful and yet free.

    /And what are we
    but what we collect
    of life's most beautiful
    and priceless collection of memories?
Memories are beautiful till our last breath and those memories will live when we pass on our collections to the next generation.

    I agree...
memories can be both fickle and moving!
    We always have our memories...
They can give us comfort and also pain.
Each moment we are in is a memory we create!
Hoping each new memory you create will be a beautiful one!

  9. The file cabinets in our mind is an amazing place!

    Beautiful as always!

  13. write such beautiful poetry. Everything you write about is so true.
    "What are we
    that is not
    a fragment
    from a past happiness?
    or a past hurt
that we can't help but store.

I can relate to these lines so much because it has made me who I am.

  14. Margie...reminds me of this one:

    By Christina Rossetti

Remember me when I am gone away,
    Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
    Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

  15. starry
